Johnny and Taylor’s Beautiful Wedding at River Highlands Ranch
Hey everyone! I had the absolute pleasure of DJing Johnny and Taylor's wedding at the stunning River Highlands Ranch. It was an amazing day filled with love, laughter, and, of course, some incredible music. Let me take you through the day’s events and share the magic that unfolded.
Setting the Scene
The ceremony kicked off at 4:00 PM sharp. Guests were treated to a playlist of instrumental covers and chill vocal songs that set the perfect, serene mood. We kept it unplugged, so everyone could truly be in the moment, which was a lovely touch and something I’m a big fan of.
For honor seating, the song “Just the Way You Are” by Joshua Garland played as seven groups, starting with officiant Taylor, made their way to their seats. As the wedding party began their processional to “Invisible Strings” by Hannah Stater, you could feel the excitement building. Then, Taylor made her solo entrance to Haley Reinhart’s rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” a moment so beautiful it felt like time stood still. There are so many cover versions of this song. Haley’s style is one of my favorites. After their vows, they walked back down the aisle as newlyweds to “You’ve Got the Love” by Florence + the Machine. It was the perfect song to capture the joy and love in the air. This was my second time playing a Florence and the Machine song for a key moment during a ceremony.
Cocktail Hour
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a relaxing cocktail hour with a playlist of acoustic covers. It was the perfect backdrop for everyone to mingle, snap some photos at Johnny and Taylor’s custom photo booth, and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings of River Highlands Ranch.
Grand Entrance and Dinner
As we moved into the reception, the energy shifted to pure celebration. The wedding party was introduced with “Good Life” by Kanye West, each pair dancing their way into the venue:
Then, it was time for the main event. “Feel So Close” by Calvin Harris blasted through the speakers as I announced, “Introducing the newly married Johnny and Taylor Nunes!” The crowd erupted in cheers as the couple made their grand entrance. I started the song around the .26 mark so they could make their entrance just as the drums were building.
Without missing a beat, Johnny and Taylor went straight into their first dance. They danced to “The Bones” by Maren Morris with Hozier, a song that speaks to the strength of their relationship. Watching them move together, you could see how much they truly love each other. After the dance, Johnny’s dad, John Nunes, gave a heartfelt blessing before dinner.
Dinner started around 6 PM, accompanied by a playlist of more acoustic covers, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Toasts followed with champagne flowing, featuring some touching and humorous speeches from the best man, matron of honor, bridesmaid, and maid of honor. A late addition to the list was the moms.
Johnny and Taylor then gave their thank-you speech, expressing their gratitude to everyone who made their day special.
Dancing the Night Away
We skipped the traditional cake cutting and bouquet toss, focusing instead on more personal moments and dances. Taylor danced with her father, Ron, to “Here Comes the Sun” by Imaginary Future, while Johnny shared a dance with his mom, Roseann, to “I Hope You Dance” by Leanne Womack. These moments were intimate and heartfelt.
The first slow song of the night was “Lover” by Taylor Swift, setting a romantic tone as everyone joined the dance floor.
For the rest of the night, the music vibe was a mix of must-play favorites and personal picks from Johnny and Taylor. We jammed to:
“Young, Wild, & Free” by Snoop Dogg
“0 to 100” by Drake
“Blow the Whistle” by Too $hort
“Yeah” by Usher
“Get Low” by Lil Jon
“Tell Me When to Go” by E-40
“Put Me On Somethin” by P-Lo
“Feelin' Myself” by Mac Dre
“Forever” by Drake
“Gold Digger” by Kanye West
“Buy U a Drank” by T-Pain
“Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC
“Uptown Girl” by Billy Joel
“This is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan
“Welcome to Atlanta Remix”
“Wobble”
“All the Small Things”
“Man! I Feel Like a Woman” by Shania Twain
“Sexy Can I” by Ray J
“Mr. Brightside” by The Killers
Early 2000s hits, “2009 specifically!” as requested by Johnny and Taylor
And for the classics, we had Earth, Wind & Fire, Journey, Stevie Wonder, Shania Twain, Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” and “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond, the planned last song of the night. I left a few minutes after this classic sing-a-long ended in case the party people wanted one more song. As the words, “Good times never seemed so good,” began to fade, I heard the chant, “One more song, one more song.” I cued up Khalid’s “All I Do Is Win” and hit play. Hands went up, and the vibes were high. I did a slow fade at the halfway spot and again hoped for another “one more song” chant. I got it, and this time took a risk and went with the Lonely Island and T-Pain banger, “I’m On a Boat.” This was my second time ever playing this in public, and I had no idea how the crowd would react. This could have been my favorite one-last-song moment ever.
We avoided the do-not-play list, which included the Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Mambo #5, and anything by Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Pitbull, or Cotton Eye Joe, to keep the vibe exactly as Johnny and Taylor wanted it.
Wrapping Up
The day's vendors included Taylor Gantt, the officiant and friend of the couple (doing an amazing job for the sixth time. Check my IG about “The World’s Best Officiant), Wild and Lovely for planning, Melanie and Andrew for photography, The Flower Garage for flowers, and Antonio Catering for food and drinks. Each vendor contributed to making Johnny and Taylor’s day absolutely perfect. I almost forgot. The venue was River Highlands Ranch.
The guest count was around 130.
Johnny and Taylor’s wedding was truly a day to remember. Their love for each other was palpable, and it was an honor to be part of their celebration. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness for the newlyweds! Check out my recap video here - Johnny and Taylor
