Choosing a Unique Song for Your First Dance.

We are surrounded by music. Some songs have a billion Spotify plays. I'm not sure popularity should be a factor when you select your first dance song. This blog post doesn't mention a John Legend record for your first dance song.

Your first dance song is your song. It's one you can play on repeat every Sunday morning.

Among the myriad delightful moments that make up this special day, your first dance as a married couple is your most important song to me. Picking a song that reflects your love story's unique flavor can set the tone for an unforgettable celebration. In this blog post, we'll delve into the significance of choosing a distinctive song for your first dance and share a handpicked Spotify playlist of 10 rarer songs than a DJ who can tastefully scratch records at a wedding. (seriously)

The Power of Music in Your First Dance:

Music is like that secret ingredient in a recipe, transforming a dish from good to gourmet. It's the soundtrack of our lives, the rhythm of our hearts, and the conductor of the emotions that run wild on your wedding day. Your first dance is a magical moment when your love story takes center stage, and the song you choose should be the opening act.

Why Choose a Unique Song?

  1. Personal Connection: Selecting a unique song is like picking a favorite flavor of ice cream. It should tickle your taste buds and leave you wanting more. Whether it's a song that reminds you of your first date, road trips, or that memorable pizza night, it should have a personal connection.

  2. Stand Out: While the classics are classics for a reason, there's something truly special about being the couple who dances to a song no one else has thought of. Choosing a unique song will make your first dance as memorable as the cousin you never met, showing off some dance moves you've never seen before. Who's cousin is that? Who knows, but they'll pop up at the next big family function.

  3. Show Your Personality: Your first dance song is your chance to show the world who you are as a couple. Don't worry about a song no one has heard before. Who cares. This is your song, your moment, and a song you and your partner will claim as yours. Print the lyrics and frame them above your bed type of song.

Choosing the Perfect Unique Song:

Now that we've established that your first dance song should be as unique as your love story, let's break down how to find that gem:

  1. Reflect on Your Journey: Like a pair of well-worn sneakers, your relationship has traveled miles together. Take a moment to reminisce about your journey. What songs have been the soundtrack to your adventures? Is there a record that makes you both smile or a lyric that perfectly sums up your love story?

  2. Lyrics and Emotions: Dive into the lyrics and emotions of the songs you consider. Does the song speak to your heart? Does it tell a story that sounds a lot like yours? It could be just one line from the song that hits deep. A lyric you could get a tattoo of. Find that, you, and probably found your song.

  3. Genre Exploration: Don't be afraid to go on a musical expedition. You might stumble upon a hidden treasure you had yet to think of. Bounce around Spotify, but avoid searching “first dance songs.” All those lists are really similar. Find a song and claim it as your own. The type of song your cousin might ask at the end of the night, “What song did you do your first dance to? I never heard I before, but I loved it!”

  4. Vibe and Feel: Close your eyes, hold each other, and let the music transport you. You might have a winner if it sends shivers down your spine or makes you teary-eyed. To me, vibe and feel are paramount when selecting a song.
