Now, let's talk about why Nevada City is the dreamiest wedding destination on the block. This town, smack dab in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, is like a love letter to couples looking for something different. Its historic charm and natural beauty make it the perfect to get married and have a party.
First off, let's talk charm. Strolling through Nevada City feels like taking a trip back in time, with its Victorian buildings and winding streets setting the scene for romance. And don't even get me started on the views! Picture exchanging vows with those mountains as your witness—talk about breathtaking.
But it's not just about the looks. Nevada City is packed with things for your guests to do, from checking out local art to hitting the trails. And with plenty of places to stay, they'll be living their best lives while celebrating yours.
Now, onto the nitty-gritty of finding that dream venue. This is where the magic happens. Here are some things to keep in mind:
Budget: Let's start with the dollars and cents. Venues come in all shapes and price tags, so knowing your budget upfront is key.
Guest List: Size matters, folks! Make sure your venue can comfortably fit all your nearest and dearest. No one wants to play sardines on your special day or possibly worse, a gigantic venue for your intimate wedding.
Style and Vibes: What's your vibe? Rustic barn, vineyard, boutique hotel, or maybe a historic brewery? Think about what matches your style and the vibe you want for your day.
Perks and Services: Look beyond the pretty facade. What does the venue offer? Tables, chairs, catering? These little details can make or break your planning process.
Getting There: Let's talk logistics. If you have guests spending the weekend, you might want to consider a shuttle service.
By keeping these things in mind, you'll be well on your way to finding the venue that's as perfect as your love story.
Now, let's talk venues! Nevada City is bursting at the seams with stunning spots to say "I do." Here are a few of our historic options.
The Stonehouse: This historic gem in the heart of Nevada City is all about the rustic charm of a vintage brewery and a wine cave out back bigger than my college apartment. With space for up to 200 of your closest friends, it's got everything you need for a picture-perfect day.
The North Star House: (Technically Grass Valley, but who’s really paying attention) Looking for something truly unique? Say hello to the North Star House. This former gold mine mansion is like stepping into a fairy tale, with gardens, a courtyard, and few options for your ceremony location. Please remember that this property is going through a serious renovation to bring it back to its formal glory. The newest additions are a beautiful lawn and some newly updated rooms. It gets better every year!
Miners Foundry Cultural Center: This place is the definition of versatility. With its mix of history and style, this place has all the vibes. Plus, it can hold up to 250 guests—talk about a party! They updated their foyer (bar) during the covid years and it looks fantastic. If I had a favorite historic venue, the Miner’s Foundry would top my list.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Nevada City has something for every couple, from outdoor wonders to ecletuc indoor spots.
Now, let's get down to brass tacks. Outdoor venues? Nevada City has them in spades. Imagine saying "I do" surrounded by nature's beauty, with these options:
Harmony Ridge Lodge: Tucked away among the pines, this spot is pure magic. With a ceremony site straight out of a fairy tale and a reception area that's all about that rustic charm, it's perfect for nature-loving couples. They have around ten rooms for your guests who want to stay onsite and camping at a medium walking distance away. Do any guests like mountain biking? The famous Scotts Drop bike trail is next door.
Schrammsberg Estate: This venue hosted some of my favorite weddings. Looking for a beautiful ceremony with a pond for your backdrop? This is the one. Bonus points for get-ready rooms and a newly built dance pad.
River Highlands Ranch: This is a barn but unlike any other barn. It has all the modern features you would hope for, plus a beautiful ceremony site, a cabin for your partner and you post-wedding, and an endless supply of amazing photo locations, including a vineyard and a vintage pickup truck. Again, technically not Nevada City, but just on the outskirts in Smartsville, CA.
The Nevada City area has some boutique hotel venues. Check out these vintage, modern spots, which host weddings twelve months a year.
The National Hotel: This place is epic. Vintage vibes with all the modern styles you could ask for, and it’s a hotel. Stay on-site with your crew and enjoy the downtown vibes of Nevada City all weekend. Having a big wedding? You can book out the entire hotel and have a magical weekend!
The Holbrooke Hotel: This boutique hotel is all about historic charm. With a variety of event spaces to choose from, including the Iron Door Speakeasy, your guests will never stop talking about their experience. This is technically one town over from Nevada City in Grass Valley (my hometown), but you have to tour this venue while you search for the perfect wedding location. There is tons to do in downtown Grass Valley all year.
And if you're feeling extra adventurous, why not check out some of Nevada City's unique venues? We're talking spots that'll make your wedding the talk of the town:
Alexander’s Station: Chef-owned and a waterfall ceremony site? What else could you ask for? Bonus overnight options are next door at 2022's best campground in the US, the Inn Town Campground. I almost forgot—your guests can take a ride on an actual railroad and check out the sites thanks to the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum. I did a wedding where the wedding party arrived at the ceremony site via this railroad. It was epic! This venue is Nevada County’s best-kept secret.
The Barns at Willow Creek: This is unique because it's beyond beautiful. A modern barn, two options for your ceremony, and country vibes all day. If your wedding party is wearing denim, the Barns at Willow Creek needs to be on your short list.
St. Joseph’s Cultural Center: This is the only venue I haven’t DJed on the list. Why am I including it? My wife was a guest at a wedding here and she loved it!
Phew! That was a lot, huh? But hey, finding the perfect wedding venue is worth every second of the search. So, take your time, ask questions, and trust your gut. When you find that spot that feels like home, your wedding day will be everything you ever dreamed of.
Now go forth, my friends, and uncover Nevada City's hidden jewel. Your perfect venue is waiting for you!
